What Does “Unfilled” EVA Adhesive Mean?

An unfilled EVA adhesive contains little or no mineral filler compared with conventional filled edgebanding glue. This typically provides improved coverage per kilogram and can produce a finer, less visible glue line.

Because machine design, ambient conditions, edging material and board quality all affect bonding performance, operators should follow the Unicol Technical Data Sheet and their edgebander manufacturer’s instructions when setting temperatures and feed speeds.

Why Choose a Translucent Edgebanding Adhesive?

A translucent adhesive is useful when working with various board and edging colours because the glue line is less visually dominant than a strongly coloured adhesive. This can reduce the need to change glue colours between jobs and makes UNIBORD 625 a versatile option for mixed-production workshops.

Important Compatibility Information

Confirm suitability before purchasing if replacing another adhesive grade. Comparable hot melt products may have different operating temperatures, viscosity, open time and feed-speed requirements.

For the best result:

  • Ensure the board and edging are clean and free from dust or oil.
  • Use correctly primed PVC and ABS edging.
  • Follow the recommended processing settings in the Unicol Technical Data Sheet.
  • Keep the glue tank clean and avoid mixing incompatible adhesive types.
  • Test the bond when changing substrates, edging materials or operating settings.

Storage

Keep the adhesive sealed in its original packaging and store it in a cool, dry location away from moisture, dust, direct sunlight and excessive heat. Reseal opened bags promptly to help prevent contamination.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Unicol UNIBORD 625 used for?
It is an EVA hot melt adhesive used in automatic edgebanding machines to bond ABS, PVC, melamine, laminate, polyester and solid timber edging to suitable wood-based panels.

What edgebanding speed is it designed for?
UNIBORD 625 is intended for machines operating at approximately 10–30 metres per minute, subject to the machine and application conditions.

What colour glue line does it produce?
The adhesive is translucent and is formulated to create a clean, discreet glue line across a variety of board and edging colours.

Can it be used with ABS and PVC edging?
Yes. ABS and PVC edging must have a suitable primer and should be processed according to the edging, adhesive and machine manufacturers’ instructions.

Is UNIBORD 625 a filled or unfilled adhesive?
It is an unfilled EVA hot melt adhesive designed to offer high yield and a refined glue line.

Will it work in every edgebanding machine?
It is designed for suitable automatic edgebanders, including appropriate HOMAG and IMA systems. Always confirm the required adhesive type, temperature range and feed speed for your particular machine.

Can UNIBORD 625 be mixed with another hot melt adhesive?
Mixing different adhesives is not recommended unless compatibility has been confirmed. Clean the glue system according to the machine manufacturer’s procedure before changing adhesive chemistry or grade.
